What to Look for When Booking an Outdoor Event Space

The Allure of the Outdoors

No other venue category matches the natural beauty of a well-chosen outdoor space. A garden terrace at golden hour, a rooftop with city views — these settings create memories that a ballroom simply cannot replicate.

1. Understand the Weather Contingency

This is non-negotiable. Every outdoor event needs a Plan B. Ask the venue: Is there an indoor space available if weather turns? Can a tent be erected? Get the answers in writing.

2. Check for Shade and Sun Direction

For daytime events, shade is essential. Visit the space at the same time of day your event will occur. Where does the sun fall?

3. Assess the Ground Surface

Grass sounds romantic until it's wet or guests are wearing heels. Ask about the ground surface and drainage.

4. Consider Noise and Sound Regulations

Many municipalities have noise ordinances that apply after a certain hour. Ask whether there are restrictions on amplified music.

5. Evaluate Restroom Facilities

Outdoor venues don't always have convenient restrooms. Ask where the nearest facilities are and whether they're accessible from the event area.

6. Check Accessibility

Ask about pathways, ramps, and whether the entire event area is navigable for guests using wheelchairs or walkers.
